Denali Therapeutics Salt Lake City Drug Testing Policy
Denali Therapeutics Inc. (Denali) is committed to providing a safe, healthy, and productive workplace that is free from alcohol and unlawful drugs as classified under local, state, or federal laws while employees are working in select areas and performing specific job functions at Denali’s Salt Lake City (SLC) premises. Employees are prohibited from being intoxicated, impaired, or under the influence of drugs or alcohol while on site premises or while operating company-provided vehicles.
The below policy applies to all Denali employees who are physically present at the following areas of its SLC facility: (1) manufacturing floor, (2) laboratories, (3) warehouse, and (4) utilities space (together, the Controlled Areas). This policy is intended to comply with applicable laws regarding drug and alcohol testing and any privacy rights.
Reasonable Suspicion
Employees may be asked to submit to a drug and alcohol test if an employee's supervisor or other person in authority has a reasonable suspicion - based on objective factors such as the employee's appearance, speech, behavior, or other conduct and facts - that the employee may be impaired due to intoxication or the influence of alcohol or drugs, including cannabis.
Employees who take over-the-counter medication or other lawful medication that can be legally prescribed under both federal and state law should inform their immediate supervisor if the medication has the potential to impact their job performance, safety, or the safety of others or if they believe they need a reasonable accommodation before reporting to work while under the influence of that medication. It is the employee’s responsibility to confirm the side effects of any medications with their treating physician. To request a reasonable accommodation please consult Human Resources.
Periodic/Random
Employees in safety or security-sensitive positions may be subject to drug and alcohol testing on an as-needed or random basis.
Post-Incident
Employees involved in any work-related accident or incident involving the violation of any safety or security procedures may be required to submit to drug and alcohol testing.
Testing Procedures
All drug and alcohol testing under this policy will be conducted by an independent testing facility (licensed by the state), which will obtain the individual's written consent prior to testing. At the time of testing, employees will be given an opportunity to provide notification of any information that they believe is relevant to the test, including identification of currently or recently used prescription medications.
Employees reasonably suspected of working while under the influence of drugs or alcohol will be suspended until Denali receives the results of a drug and alcohol test from the testing facility and any other information which it may require to make an appropriate determination. This suspension may be unpaid. In the event an employee tests positive for the presence of drugs and/or alcohol, the employee will be asked to consent to a confirmation test within 3 days.
Grounds for Discipline in Connection with Testing
The following will result in discipline: (1) testing positive for drugs or alcohol while physically present in Controlled Areas; or (2) refusal to submit to or failure to timely complete testing when required post-accident, upon reasonable suspicion, or for the purpose of confirming a failed test.
Discipline may include (a) a requirement that the employee enroll in an employer-approved rehabilitation, treatment, or counseling program, which may include additional drug or alcohol testing, as a condition of continued employment; (b) suspension of the employee with or without pay for a period of time; (c) termination of employment; (d) exclusion from the Controlled Areas; and/or (e) other disciplinary measures in conformance with Denali’s policies and procedures.
Confidentiality
All records relating to an employee or applicant's drug and alcohol test results will be kept confidential and maintained separately from the individual's personnel file.
Denali reserves the right to change, modify, or delete the provisions of this Drug Testing Policy.
